Play-ing with a Purpose at Brookhill Elementary

In October, Brookhill Elementary School in Athens, AL received $10,000 to support its afterschool theater arts program, Play-ing With a Purpose, in collaboration with the Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Academy (FPCTA). Through the program:

  • Eighty students will receive weekly hour-long afterschool theater enrichment to explore engaging, developmentally appropriate elements of the theater with an informal performance for friends and family on the final day of class; and
  • 30 third-grade students will take a deeper dive with twice weekly 90-minute classes, where they will rehearse lines, create sets and costumes, and learn the technical elements of putting on a performance. The final session will include a performance to showcase their talents to friends, family, and the broader Athens community.

Through both experiences, students will improve their communication and collaboration skills and gain real-world exposure to the theater arts. We’re excited to support the budding actors and actresses of Brookhill Elementary and for the students to share their talents with friends and family at the close of the school year.
