Update

2018 Second Quarter Grant Awards

The Steelcase Foundation awarded five grants to the following organizations for the second quarter of 2018.

– Education

Grand Rapids Public Schools

  • Received $580,000 over three years to continue its Harvard Leadership Development grant, furthering the culture shift in the district through comprehensive professional development, and explicit discussion of equity, race, and class consciousness.

– Human Service

Covenant House Michigan Grand Rapids

  • Was awarded $175,000 to Covenant House, a residential facility near Covenant House Academy, to house a challenging population of homeless youth, ages 18-24 in Grand Rapids. The facility will fill the gap between drop-in shelters and permanent housing, provide support and mentorship to stabilize health, advance education and employment, and develop other life skills to prepare residents for success once they leave the residential program.

Habitat for Humanity of Kent County

  • Received a $500,000 Program Related Investment (PRI) for five years, to assist Habitat with cash flow needs and to quickly acquire properties in the Roosevelt Park, Grandville Avenue, and Black Hills neighborhoods during their active fundraising campaign.

Inner City Christian Federation (ICCF)

  • Received $300,000 over three years to provide resident engagement and financial and home maintenance education to homeowners and occupants.

– Other

Michigan League for Public Policy

  • Received $50,000 over two years to continue their Kids’ Count work, bring individual stories to the project, and utilize social media for better visibility.

 

The Foundation matched $150,252 in gifts to educational institutions, $36,103 to arts and culture, $16,920 to environment and conservation, and $675 to crisis and disaster philanthropies. To date, the Foundation has matched $326,031 for its 2018 fiscal year (December 1, 2017 – November 30, 2018).
