Award recipients smile together, celebrating achievements in a welcoming indoor space that inspires community and opportunity.

Steelcase Inc. and the Steelcase Foundation received the Drum Major for Justice award at the Urban League of West Michigan’s 23rd annual corporate breakfast honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The award is given to an individual or group who embodies Dr. King’s legacy and spirit and is inspired by his famous quote,

“Yes, if you want to that I was a drum major, say I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter.”

We’re excited to share this honor with Steelcase Inc. in recognition of our joint efforts to act with justice, peace, and righteousness in our work. We know there is more to do to ensure that Grand Rapids is an equitable and just place for all of its residents, and will use the award to springboard our efforts to challenges assumptions, listen, and interrogate systems, structures, and behaviors that perpetuate inequity and injustice.
