As Coordinator for the Investment in Families Initiative, I’ve had the privilege of spending the first six months of this journey walking alongside 30 remarkable women. Together, we’ve worked to identify and support the goals they’ve set for themselves—goals that reflect their resilience, determination and hope for a brighter future. These women are building lives that not only uplift themselves but also strengthen their families and communities.
The longevity of the Investment in Families Initiative provides these women with something truly invaluable: consistent, long-term support. With the program running through 2034, family leaders have the time and resources to focus on meaningful, sustainable progress toward their dreams. Many of their goals revolve around themes like financial wellness, education, and mental health—pillars of a thriving life.

Igniting Educational Aspirations
The financial support and flexibility offered by the Initiative has rekindled the educational dreams of many family leaders. For some, these dreams had been deferred for years while they focused on family or faced financial barriers. Now, they are reigniting those aspirations with renewed energy and purpose.
Driven by a passion for compassionate healthcare, one family leader has embarked on a journey to become a nurse. She attends Cornerstone University, working toward her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Her goal is to specialize in pediatrics and mental health, combining clinical excellence with a holistic approach to patient care. Her vision is clear: to make a meaningful impact in healthcare while building a better future for her family.
Pursuing Entrepreneurial Passions
Another family leader has set her sights on creating a business that promotes holistic self-care. Her goal is to educate her community about self-love and the importance of non-toxic skincare routines. To make this dream a reality, she’s applied to the Spring GR Business Accelerator program, which will provide her with the tools to build a sustainable enterprise. Next, she plans to complete a medicinal plants certification program at Cornell University, equipping her to empower others through nature-inspired care. Her passion for wellness and community education is inspiring and contagious.
Expanding Mental Health Advocacy
A third family leader, who is a mother of three and a dedicated drug and alcohol counselor, is determined to deepen her impact in the mental health field. She’s working towards transferring to and pursuing a degree in behavioral neuroscience at Grand Valley State University with the ultimate goal of becoming a licensed clinical psychologist. Overcoming financial obstacles, she’s committed to advocating for mental health and supporting individuals and families navigating trauma and addiction. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance, the desire to create lasting change, and the long-term support to do so.
Building a Brighter Future
Each woman in the cohort has set a goal that reflects her unwavering commitment to personal growth, family well-being, and community impact. From launching businesses to advancing education and championing mental health, their journeys are a celebration of strength, determination, and hope.
The Investment in Families Initiative is more than a program; it’s a partnership that supports women to take bold steps toward their futures. Their stories remind us all of the incredible power of perseverance and the transformative potential brought on by dedicated commitment and support. Together, these women are creating meaningful change that will ripple through their families and communities for generations to come.
