Supporting Whole Child Education at Baxter Community Center

October 31, 2025

Volunteers in green shirts gather by a historic horse-drawn streetcar, building community near a colorful mural.

In 2023, the Steelcase Foundation awarded the Grand Rapids Public Museum Foundation a three-year $300,000 grant to support its Immerse Program, an innovative educational initiative that allows West Michigan schools the opportunity to use the Museum as their classroom for an entire week. Visiting teachers partner with Museum educators to design curriculum around the Museum’s artifacts and exhibits to create an immersive experience that emphasizes storytelling, diversity, and problem solving, and connects to lessons throughout the school year.

Hear from GRPM lead educator Ashleigh Palmiter and participating teachers and students as they share their insights into the Immerse Program. To learn more about Grand Rapids Public Museum and the Immerse Program, check out its website here.
